Can visiting a hazardous waste site lead to psych-pop inspiration?

Yes; if you ask The New Lines of Brooklyn and Sansyou of Washington DC. The two bands collaborated to write "Gowanus Canal Field Inspection", a two minute hook-laden tune with The New Lines Hewson Chen's vocals and surf-tinged guitar on top Sansyou's drums and jangling wash of guitars. During a visit from DC, Sansyou's David Nicholas shared his impressions on environmental conditions at the site with Chen. Unexpectedly, lyrics and music flowed quickly from Chen and were volleyed between the bands; recording separately and mixing virtually, it was finished in less than a week. The optimistic message of the song matches the gentle yet strident pace of the music and may be the first of its kind to emerge from the murky Gowanus Canal with the hopeful refrain, "...it's not too late to change".
